Pony Barn
This barn was used in the 1930's -1940's to accommodate the mine horses in the adjacent Ajax Coal Mine. It was built in 1928 from the materials salvaged from the CPR Railway Roundhouse which was located in the town at Dunmore, Alberta. The mine horses really appreciated this barn. Before it was built, they lived in the mine, night and day.
Horses pulled all the coal from the mine. The mine's small size made any other type of power too expensive. Most ofthe mine horses were full sized, although for a few years Shetland ponies were used.
