Farm Site

The Echo Dale Farm Site is located in scenic Echo Dale Regional Park.

Built on the bank of the South Saskatchewan River, Echo Dale Farm is located 2 miles West of the Medicine Hat Airport on Holsom Road and 2 miles North on EchoDale Road. The Historical Displays at Echo Dale are a reminder of what prairie life was like in the early days.

In the mid 1930's Bill Weir came to Echo Dale and installed an irrigation system to grow Alfalfa for a dairy operation. Later his son Charlie, and Frank Millington took over the farm. They moved this engine from the Dunmore Roundhouse, and connected it to a new pump to flood irrigate the flat hay land on the east end. The river water went into a ditch still visible above the shed.

Both families first lived in a three story brick boarding house. Later they built 2 small frame houses near the barn. Natural gas from the well in the farmyard powered the engine for irrigating. The terrible noise, non-stop all summer, was a major irritation to people living in the boarding house.
